What we do

The XCentre offers training in a wide range of media software, listed below. Our training is mainly introductory, helping you get over that first hurdle when approaching something completely new.

We will ask what your productivity needs are and then deliver training which is specific to these needs. Our training is steady and painless! There is no jargon if you don’t want it, but plenty of technical detail if you do.

Our main trainer is Mike. He has worked with IT and media since 1988, and brought his skills to community work in 1994. Despite his broad knowledge of media and computing, his main skill is in his delivery. After 16 years of working with some of the hardest to engage people, he has developed a personable, gentle, plain English style with just the right balance of expertise and humour.

Along with over 20 years experience, Mike is educated to Masters level, has Apple certification, qualified tutor status and can deliver the Arts Award programme. He built the web-site you are reading, took many of the photographs and used Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and InDesign to produce these pages and PDF’s. He has made films in cooperation with the BBC, is a singer/songwriter and records and masters his own music. As if this wasn’t enough, he has taught MS Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access, the Mac iLife suite, stop-motion animation, film-making, song-writing, recording and guitar.

All this experience is drawn on to ensure that your questions are answered.

What we do not do

The XCentre offers in-house certification, but no nationally recognised qualification. The financial and administrative overheads are simply too much for us to bear as a charity. However, if you are a private individual or a business-person who wants their staff to gain skills, our training is extremely competitively priced. Most Logic training is typically around £700 for two days, where we can deliver it for £150 a day.

Why We Do It

Our training helps raise funding to enable us to deliver the same high quality service to some of the most vulnerable people and groups in the South West. Every day of professional training means we can deliver a day which helps transform someone’s life. By training at the XCentre you save money compared to many alternatives, get comparable high quality training and support your local community at no extra charge… how could you not?!
